High Country History

  • Australian Saddle Safaris Ware's Yards Campground Gooandra, NSW, 2629 Australia (map)

Kosciuszko National Park's high country is steeped in rich history, marked by the adventurous spirit of the early gold rush and pioneering cattlemen.

In the 1800s, gold seekers flocked to the rugged terrain, leaving behind traces of their search for fortune. The high country also became home to resilient cattlemen who established grazing runs, shaping the landscape and culture of the region. Today, remnants of this vibrant history can be explored amidst the breathtaking beauty of the park’s alpine scenery.

Join us in the saddle for a trip of a lifetime! Ride through the rugged mountainside, across streams and over wide open plains all astride our magnificent horses.

Relax by the open fire while sipping billy tea and telling stories from the day’s adventures before retiring for the night in your own quality canvas safari tent.
