Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Here

How do I get to you and what time should I arrive?

If you put the name of your campground eg. “Ware’s Yards campground” into Google Maps, it will take you right to us! We will also have signs into the campground.

We would like it if you could arrive after 4:30 pm. This gives everyone time to get to know each other and set up for the trek!

Can I fly to Cooma Regional Airport?

At the moment, unfortunately, our local airport does not offer flights during our season. You can fly into Canberra and catch the connecting bus to Cooma.

If I fly into Canberra, how do I get to Adaminaby?

There are several rental companies at the airport to hire a car from. We recommend this as it gives you the opportunity to explore the area.

Can I take my car up to the camp?

Yes, you can as long as it has standard clearance (hasn’t been lowered). The roads are being well maintained at the moment due to the Snowy Hydro Scheme also in the area.

Riding

What is the minimum age?

Due to our insurance requirements, our minimum age is 10.

Do you have a weight limit?

For the well-being of our horses, we have a weight limit of 95kg.

Do you have treks for someone who has never ridden?

No. We have a requirement of a minimum of 5 hours of prior riding experience. This prior experience will make a huge difference to the enjoyment of your trip. We spend roughly 5-7 hours a day in the saddle.

How far do we ride each day?

We ride between 15 to 20km per day, about 5-7 hours in the saddle with a relaxed lunch break.

What if I get sore?

Please let us know! It could be a simple fix of lengthening or shortening your stirrups.

Can I bring my own saddle?

We do allow you to bring your own stock or drafter saddle HOWEVER it will need to be a suitable fit for our horses. You can discuss saddle fitting with Brad beforehand to determine if you should. English saddles are not appropriate for riding in the mountains.

Can I bring my own horse?

No. Our horses have been trained to cross bogs and work as a herd.

etc: If we have 4 people bring their own horses and they won’t cross bogs or creeks it holds up the whole ride. We’ve seen people take hours to cross. (we wish we were joking)

Why can’t I ride with you during winter/through the snow?

Many of the campgrounds are shut during winter due to the harsh conditions and snow. Also when it gets cold up here, it gets cold!

Will we see brumbies during our trek?

We cannot guarantee that we will see brumbies but they are out there!

What happens in inclement weather?

Safety is our main concern and weather can be quite a hazard. We have alternative activities for our guests to do that will keep them dry.

No. We provide saddle bags for you to put your belongings in. You can bring a bum bag to wear while riding as well.

Do I have to wear a helmet to go riding?
